Isle of Dreams, 2025
Watercolor on paper, 30 x 22 inches
Seated atop a face-like rock figure is a fantastical city: a representation of what it feels like to have a creative mind, continuously bustling with ideas, solidifying this image as a self-portrait. Isle of Dreams is a testament to our imagination as a site of struggle and resilience that shapes our experience of reality. To be aware of this is a powerful initial step in helping us heal, navigating our lives, and envisioning our future.
Isle of Dreams was the cover art for the 48th Annual Old Dominion University Literary Festival. Alongside creating this, I continued to serve as Program Manager with the operations team, overseeing the festival’s logistics.

PROCESS
Isle of Dreams was created in conscious oscillation between traditional and digital techniques. First a hand drawn sketch, it was then scanned and drawn again digitally to procure separate layers for line and color. The line layer was projected and traced onto a large sheet of watercolor paper and the color layer was utilized as a palette reference.
