From childhood memories of my grandmother calling to them in the yard and my mother preceding exciting news with the phrase “a little birdie told me;” birds have always held a deep connection to the matriarchs in my life that continues to spark my imagination. Their presence is grounding and brings me tranquility. This series of miniature watercolor bird paintings began as an activity to destress one day after work and continues to be a joyful activity for me over a year later. Songbirds seem to fit best in the tiniest frames I could find, but I have recently expanded to larger frames and birds including gulls, ravens, and owls. So far, over fifty species of birds have been painted with the goal of not repeating the same bird twice.
